Equine Therapeutics

Equine acupucnture and manual therapies support horses through training, recovery and aging. Using the same principles of traditional Chinese medicine as in human care, I assess the horse holistically, including posture, movement, muscle tone, behavior, etc. and then treat with acupuncture and bodywork tailored to what the horse needs. I travel to your barn so that your horse is treated in a familiar, calm setting.

For working and competition horses, treatment can support suppleness, symmetry, recovery between performance demands and to address stiffness, reluctance in certain movements or tension or pain that appears with training.

Performance

Alongside veterinary care, acupuncture and bodywork can support recovery from injury and help horses return to work comfortably. I coordinate with your veterinarian and trainers as needed.

Rehabilitation

The aging horse

Older horses often benefit from added comfort and mobility. Gentle, regular sessions can support joint comfort, circulation, appetite and overall vitality, helping senior horses stay active and content.

What a visit is like

I come to you. We begin with a conversation about your horse’s history, work and health concerns and then observe and palpate before treating. Sessions are unhurried and can vary in length of time. Most horses relax quite quickly and deeply in response to acupuncture. I will suggest a plan for follow-up and anything you can do to support the treatment between visits. Mobile visit fees vary by distance, so please inquire about rates.
