Herbal Medicine

I utilize time-tested botanical formulas to address both the root causes and symptoms of illness. After a detailed assessment of your health history, current concerns and symptoms, and overall constitution, I select or customize herbal formulas designed to restore balance within the body’s systems. Formulas are carefully prescribed, modified to each individual’s unique condition and adjusted over time as the body responds and the condition evolves. Herbal prescription may be provided as granules, powders, capsules, tinctures or teas. My goal is to help patients understand how and why herbal prescriptions work so that you can feel informed and engaged in your healing process.

Herbal approaches

Classical Chinese herbal medicine

Classical Chinese herbal medicine draws from the earliest medical text of the Chinese medical tradition, emphasizing precise diagnosis and the thoughtful use of traditional formulas that have been refined over centuries. Rather than focusing primarily on symptom categories, this approach looks closely at underlying patterns in the body and how they relate to the larger landscape and ecology of your health. This style of practice often involves a deeper exploration of constitutional patterns, complex or long-standing conditions, and subtle imbalances that may not fit neatly into modern categories and is especially helpful for chronic and layered health issues.

Gemmotherapy

Gemmotherapy is a modern branch of phyotherapy (plant-based medicine) that harnesses the potent embryonic tissues of trees and shrubs, fresh buds, young shoots, seeds, and rootlets — harvested at peak germination. These extracts, rich in phyto-hormones and enzymes, support organ function, detoxification tissue regeneration and gentle drainage of toxins. Inspired by homeopathic principles, it promotes holistic healing, vitality, and balance for conditions ranging from stress and inflammation to chronic illness.

External herbs

Herbs can also be applied directly to the body. I use liniments, salves, plasters, poultices, compresses and soaks to support pain relief, injury recovery, local circulation and organ function. External herbs work well alongside acupuncture and manual therapies, and they can also be applied at home as a form of self-treatment between visits.

Formulas and follow-up

Customized herbal formulations are adjusted over time as your condition changes. We check in regularly to see how you’re responding, and I refine the formula as we go. Herbal consults and follow-ups can happen in-person or remotely via telehealth sessions. I also review your medications and supplements to avoid interactions, and I explain how and when to take each formula and what to watch for.
